The pandemic has raised consumer interest in foods that boost the immune system, which has apparently helped South Korea’s exports of kimchi reach a new alltime high.
According to the Korea Customs Service, outbound shipments of kimchi from January through November came to around 130 million dollars.
That beats the previous record of about 106 million dollars and the year isn’t even over yet.
By far the country that’s bought the most kimchi this year is Japan, accounting for about 49 percent of the total.
It was followed by the U.S. with about 16 percent.
