Remains of Korean freedom fighter Hong Beom-do to arrive in Seoul Sunday night

And on this Liberation Day, South Korea will receive the remains of a hero who gave his life for Korea’s independence in the early 20th century.
This is General Hong Beom-do, who died in Kazakhstan in 1943.
The return of his remains was arranged by President Moon Jae-in in connection with a state visit this coming week by the President of Kazakhstan.
Hong Beom-do is famous for leading his freedom fighters to victory against Japanese troops at the Battle of Bongo-dong in Manchuria in 1920.
He spent the end of his life in Kazakhstan with other Koreans deported there by Stalin.
South Korea will observe an official mourning period for the late general on Monday and Tuesday, and he will be put to rest at a national cemetery in the central city of Daejeon on Wednesday.
