The pandemic’s impact on the labor market in South Korea has led to a record number of discouraged jobseekers, meaning people who’ve stopped looking for work because of a lack of what they see as suitable options.
Statistics Korea says the number of discouraged jobseekers in June came to 583-thousand.
The number is up 46-thousand on-year, and has been rising for the past 16 months.
Almost 47 percent of them are in their 20s and 30s.
Those 60 and older accounted for close to 29 percent of the total.
