The Supreme Court has issued the final ruling in the high-profile corruption case of former President Park Geun-hye, who will serve 22 years in prison and be fined 18 billion won.
At the sentence hearing this morning over an appeal to reduce Park’s prison term, the Supreme Court ruled to keep the original verdict.
During her retrial in July of last year, Park received this sentence of a combined 20 years in prison and fines of 18 billion won, just over 16 million U.S. dollars, for bribery, abuse of power and other charges.
Her 22 year sentence includes a two-year prison term for her 2018 conviction over illegal meddling in a nomination process for positions in the then ruling Saenuri Party.
