A South Korean court is set to rule on the lawsuit filed against the Japanese government by Korean women who were forced into sexual slavery under the Japanese rule during World War Two.
On Friday, the Seoul Central District Court will decide on the case filed by the twelve plaintiffs as well as their bereaved family members.
They are demanding over 92-thousand U.S. dollars each from Tokyo as compensation for the mental distress and financial losses they have suffered.
The verdict, which comes nearly eight years after the legal process started, is the first regarding a civil lawsuit against Tokyo filed by the so-called ‘comfort women’.
