A group of seven South Korean lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties are in Tokyo, Japan this afternoon meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
According to Korean media reports from Tokyo, they’re at the PM’s residence where their discussions are expected to include how to resolve the issue of Japan’s subjection of Koreans to forced labor during World War Two.
South Korea has moved to liquidate the assets of Japanese companies to provide compensation to the victims, and it’s expected that Prime Minister Suga will reaffirm his opposition to that plan.
The South Korean lawmakers said they would seek to foster a friendlier environment for the two countries to resolve their differences.
This is Suga’s first meeting with South Korean lawmakers since he became Prime Minister in September.
