An international conference hosted by Seoul, South Korea began this Thursday.
But, the 2020 Union of International Associations Round Table Asia-Pacific is unlike any networking event that came before it.
Led by its Tourism Organization and local tech firms, Seoul designed an online platform featuring a variety of local landmarks as virtual, 3D meeting venues.

“Successfully holding the event is one thing, but we also mulled over how we could really show Seoul and came up with the 3D idea.”

‘Virtual Seoul’, as it is called, features Changdeokgung Palace as the main conference hall, the Sevit Islets as workshops, and Namsan Seoul Tower as an information boothamong others.
After virtually entering the venue, participants can share intellectual ideas or simply chat amongst each other through split video screens.
There’s even a place to watch promotional films atop the Dongdaemun Design Plaza.
The two-day event will come to an end Friday evening, but the Seoul Tourism Organization hopes this year’s Asia-Pacific round table will leave a lasting legacy.

“I’m hoping this round table will serve as a catalyst and help contribute to the development of related enterprises.”

Throughout the years, South Korea has grown into a global hub for MICE, or the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions industry.
And leading the way is the nation’s capital.
