President Moon Jae-in has given the greenlight to designate more parts of the country as special disaster zones, due to damage caused by the torrential rain earlier this month.
The new list includes 36 hard-hit towns, villages and districts across the country joining the 18 previously-designated areas.
These areas will be eligible for state-funded restoration work, while affected residents will be able to receive financial support for living expenses.
Noting that a typhoon is expected to reach the Korean peninsula later this week, President Moon also called for preparations against any further damage.
