S. Korea to build world’s largest offshore wind farm

President Moon Jae-in attended a signing ceremony today for a deal to build the world’s biggest offshore wind farm.
It’ll be at the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula, in Shinan County.
Currently, the world’s biggest offshore windfarm is in the U.K., but this one will be seven times bigger.
And at 8.2 gigawatts, it will produce enough electricity to power all households in Seoul and Incheon for a year.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Moon said it was an achievement for balanced regional development.

“The economic effects are enormous. More than US$ 43.1 billion will be invested by 2030, and 120,000 new jobs will be created. Mokpo will become the center of marine wind and logistics, and Yeongam and Shinan will have a large-scale complex for manufacturing offshore wind farm facilities.”

He promised to speed up the construction of the wind farm, which is expected to take at least 5 years, to make South Korea one of the top 5 countries in terms of offshore wind power by 2030.
