The South Korean government is set to roll out another package of measures to address the soaring cost of housing offered through “jeonse” contracts, a two-year housing rental agreement with a large lump-sum deposit.
The new measures to be introduced Thursday will likely include supplying over 100-thousand homes as public housing for low-and-middle-income families in the greater capital area.
Via the so-called “buy-and-lease” strategy, the government purchases existing homes to lease to citizens, which is seen as a way to address housing issues swiftly compared to the long period of time needed to build new homes.
