Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun in a briefing on Wednesday said that he would take the initiative to encourage senior citizens aged 70 or older to get vaccinated against the flu.
But public concern over the safety of the seasonal flu vaccines is mounting in South Korea, as a number of people have died after getting the shot.
On Tuesday, a man in his 80s was found dead at his home in Daejeon, several hours after being vaccinated.
He’s known to have had no preexisting health conditions.
On the same day, a woman in her 70s was also found dead in Gochang, Jeollabuk-do Province, after the same procedure.
Public health authorities are investigating possible links between the deaths and the seasonal vaccines.
So far, the country has seen three deaths with suspected links to the flu shots.
