President Moon Jae-in has nominated Army Chief of Staff General Suh Wook as the country’s new minister of national defense.
In announcing his nomination Friday, the Blue House cited General Suh’s expertise and extensive experience, which includes serving at the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command for the pick, adding that he’s fit to foster a strong army and pursue key military reform plans.
He would be the first defense minister with an army background under the Moon administration.
He will be appointed following a parliament confirming hearing and will replace Jeong Kyeong-doo.
