South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha has left for Washington for scheduled talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and also to start building ties with the presumptive incoming Biden administration.
The talks with Pompeo will take place on Monday, Washington time, and according to the foreign ministry, will reaffirm the staunch South Korea-U.S. alliance.
While there, Kang is expected to meet with scholars, officials at think tanks and other key figures who could be given roles in a Biden administration.
She’s accompanied on the trip by Seoul’s top nuclear negotiator, Lee Do-hoon, who’ll be meeting with his American counterpart Steven Biegun for discussions that are expected to cover ways to deal with potential provocations by North Korea during the change in administrations.
