Starting Monday, there’ll be a total ban on eating at the kinds of public places like movie theaters and sports arenas that are subject to existing rules such as sitting one seat apart.
Eating had been allowed under levels two and one.five, which are now in force, but the new rule will ban eating regardless of the level.
Starting this week, the ban will apply at 21 types of places, which also include libraries, museums and kids’ cafes.
There are exceptions, though for instance, if a museum has a designated area for eating, like a cafe or restaurant.
Violators will be fined a hundred-thousand won, or around 90 U.S. dollars, starting April 5th after a one-week grace period.
On top of the no-eating policy, entry to these places will require a temperature check, and there will be a person in charge of making sure the rules are enforced.
To stop the rise in virus cases, the health authorities have extended the level two social distancing in the Seoul metropolitan area and level one.five in the rest of the country until April 11th.
That means still no private gatherings of five or more people, with certain exceptions like pre-wedding gatherings of the bride and groom’s families, which can include up to eight people.
