Survivor of Japan’s wartime sex slavery passes

A survivor of Japan’s wartime sex slavery passed away on Friday.
Jeong Bok-soo was the oldest among 16 registered South Korean victims.
According to the House of Sharing, a facility in Gwangju that supports victims of sexual slavery, her funeral will be held privately.
It decided not to disclose Jeong’s story and profile at her bereaved family’s request.
Her age is listed as 1-hundred- and-6 on the government database after apparently inheriting her deceased older sister’s census registration records, but Jeong was actually 98 years old.
She was the oldest among the Korean survivors of the Japanese war crimes.
Historians estimate up to 200-thousand women, mostly from Korea, were forced to work in front-line brothels for Japanese troops during World War Two.
