South Korean Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said on Sunday that the government could have no choice but to enact stricter distancing measures both in and outside the capital if the current surge in coronavirus cases continues.
He noted in particular the risk of the virus being spread as people travel for summer vacation.
The numbers continue to be high despite the capital region being under the strictest distancing rules for the past three weeks.
The country reported 1,4-hundred-41 cases on Sunday.
That compares to a little over 17-hundred on Friday, but the decline was in large part due to fewer tests being done on the weekend.
Of Sunday’s new cases, around a third continued to be outside of the greater Seoul area.
