South Korea reported 357 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, falling down into the three hundred range for the first time in nearly a week on fewer tests conducted over the weekend.
317 of Monday’s cases were transmitted locally, with Seoul and the surrounding area accounting for 222.
Cluster infections have been linked to social gatherings nationwide and a hospital in Busan, while a recent outbreak at a church in Seoul is now being linked to over thirty patients.
Out of the forty imported cases, fourteen are believed to come from Indonesia.
Starting July first, the country will allow private gatherings of up to six people in Seoul and the surrounding area.
This will be raised to eight people after a two-week trial period.
It’s all in line with the new social distancing plan revealed on Sunday, which simplifies the current five-tier scheme into a four-tier one.
The new rules will allow nightclubs and other adult entertainment facilities in the greater Seoul area, expected to be placed at level two, to resume operations.
Restaurants, cafes and singing rooms under level two can operate for two hours longer, until midnight.
The rest of the country will likely be placed under level one, meaning come July, there will be no bans on private gatherings or business hour restrictions.
Concerts can have up to 5,000 people in attendance from level two to four while demonstrations of up to 99 people are allowed under level two.
And for schools, the eased social distancing plan will allow all students to learn in-person from the second semester under levels one and two though some schools in regions under level two could still have attendance caps.
