The consumption of tobacco and alcohol hit an all-time high in South Korea in the third quarter of last year due in part to the pandemic.
The Bank of Korea says nearly 4 billion U.S. dollars was spent on cigarettes and alcohol between July and September 2020, up 6.2 percent on-year.
This is the highest quarterly figure since related data was first compiled in 1970.
The increase is believed to be due to pandemic fatigue and social distancing.
