President Moon Jae-in has appointed former science minister You Young-min as his new chief of staff.
You is known for his expertise in IT, having previously worked for some of Korea’s largest conglomerates.
President Moon also appointed Shin Hyun-soo a former prosecutor and high-ranking intelligence official as his Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs and Justice.
The appointments come a day after three of his top aides offered to resign to reduce the president’s burden on state affairs.
However, the president did not accept the resignation of his policy chief Kim Sang-jo given a string of pending issues to be dealt with.
The president’s support rating has recently dipped to below 40 percent due to public criticism over rising housing prices and concerns of a possible delay of COVID-19 vaccine procurement.
