In its latest effort to keep out the more transmissible UK variant of COVID-19, South Korea has decided to operate ten temporary living facilities to quarantine those coming in from abroad.
Overseas entrants in quarantine will now also be subject to extra tests for the virus before they’re released, starting with those scheduled to be let out this Wednesday.
Officials say it is “highly unlikely” that the variant is currently spreading in Korea, but the system has been put in place as a precaution.
Three cases of it were confirmed in South Korea on Monday in passengers who’d arrived from the UK last week.
Twelve flight attendants and five passengers who came into contact with them have tested negative.
